Date Night in Steveston Village

date night Steveston — Vogue Cafe, Steveston Village Richmond
Vogue Cafe, Steveston Village

Steveston still smells like salt and cedar at dusk. You park on No. 1 Road, walk past the Cannery lights, and settle into a red-checkered table under string lights with a glass of Côtes du Rhône for $11.

The dining room runs deep red walls and wood tables; the front patio sits at bar height beside the heritage storefront windows, and the covered side patio adds greenery walls and a dog bowl by the door. Service is counter-to-table, unhurried, and the liquor licence holds until midnight — so the last course doesn't arrive with the cheque.

What to order when the evening stretches

Start with French Onion Soup à l'Ancienne ($17). The broth remembers every marrow bone that went into it; the crouton floats, the cheese pulls, and the spoon stands upright. Split a Charcuterie Plate ($17) — dry sausage, beer sausage, prosciutto, frankfurter, pickle — and let the wine breathe.

For mains, the Chef Signatures ($29) are built for sharing headspace: Beef Bourguignon reduced until the wine is memory, Navarin d'Agneau with lamb that falls apart, Creamy Mushroom Chicken baked under sauce, or Ratatouille with three-colour rice. If you'd rather graze, Savoury Crêpes ($17) arrive on buckwheat galettes — nutty, crisp at the edges, holding sautéed mushroom, spinach, egg, or beer sausage without sogging.

Wine, spritzes, and the nightcap

Six-ounce pours at $11, nine at $15, bottles at $45. French reds (Côtes du Rhône, Merlot Pays d'Oc, Mouton Cadet Bordeaux) sit beside BC Gamay and Cabernet Franc; whites pour Mouton Cadet Bordeaux, BC Viognier, and the sparkling Back Forty. Rosé is La Vieille Ferme. Cocktails ($13) lean apéritif: Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz with St-Germain, Paris Spritz with Grand Marnier, Kir Royale, Cognac Highball, and a Shaft (Grey Goose, espresso, Kahlúa) if the night calls for caffeine and spirit together.

After dinner on the boardwalk

Dessert is made in-house: Caramel Chocolate Tart, Strawberry Tart, Lemon Tart, or an Éclair au Chocolat at $10 each. Sweet Crêpes ($14) run Nutella-banana, Suzette with Grand Marnier, apple with house-made caramel. Coffee stays on until close — espresso $4, latte $6, iced versions the same. Walk the boardwalk toward Garry Point with the last light on the Fraser; the village stays awake around you.

Private corner, same room

Seven to ten guests books the private dining area; ten and up opens an event enquiry. The same menu, the same wine list, the same red walls — just a quieter corner for an anniversary or a proposal. Call (604) 370-4444 or use the online form; confirmation comes within two hours.

What people ask

Is the patio heated?

The side patio is covered with greenery walls; the front tables are open to the street. No heaters are listed in our specs — call to ask about current setup.

Can we bring a cake for a birthday?

Call to ask — the kitchen plates house-made tarts and éclairs daily, so they'll tell you what works.

Do you take reservations for two at 7 pm?

Yes. Online form or phone; confirmed within two hours. Walk-ins welcome but the window tables go first.

Are there vegetarian mains?

Ratatouille ($29) and several savoury crêpes ($17) are meat-free; the Spinach Quiche ($17) runs egg, spinach, Brie. Call to ask about vegan adjustments.
