French Restaurant in Steveston Village — Vogue Cafe

French restaurant Steveston — Vogue Cafe, Steveston Village Richmond
Vogue Cafe, Steveston Village

You walk off the Steveston boardwalk, past the Cannery and the gulls over the Fraser, and turn onto No 1 Road. Two blocks in, a heritage-style storefront wears a gable roofline and the words FRENCH BISTRO in black lettering. String lights trace the eaves. A dog bowl sits by the door. Inside, deep-red walls, wood tables, and a small bar hold the kind of quiet that settles in after a long shift. This is Vogue Cafe — open daily 10:30am to 8:30pm, brunch until 3pm, fully licensed with a liquor licence that runs to midnight for private bookings.

What the menu actually looks like

The printed menu in the window doesn't pretend to be a tasting room. Four chef signatures at $29: beef bourguignon, navarin d'agneau, creamy mushroom chicken, ratatouille with three-colour rice. Café plates at $17 — croque monsieur, croque madame, croque veggie, quiche Lorraine, spinach quiche with Brie. Savoury crêpes at $17, made on buckwheat; the galette batter gives a lace-edged crisp that wheat crêpes never quite manage. Baguette sandwiches at $20 on house-made baguette: Parisienne with prosciutto and European ham, Agneau with roast lamb, French Onion with slow-cooked beef and caramelized onions, Poulet au Brie with fresh mango, Saucisson Frankfurt in tomato sauce, and a baguette pizza with your choice of topping. Starters at $17 include French onion soup à l'ancienne on beef marrow-bone broth, salade Parisienne, chèvre chaud on toasted baguette with raisins and almonds, feta salad, duck pâté, brie en croûte, and a charcuterie plate. Sweet crêpes at $14 — Nutella banana, Suzette with Grand Marnier, sugar-lemon, apple-caramel, cinnamon-butter. Desserts at $10 made in house: caramel chocolate tart, strawberry tart, lemon tart, two éclairs.

The space: two patios, one dining room

Out front, bar-height tables catch the morning sun. Around the side, a covered patio wears greenery walls and red-checkered tablecloths — the kind that survive wind and wine spills. The dining room runs deep: red walls, wood, a bar pours Kronenbourg 1664 on tap alongside Barnside Brewing's hazy IPA, pilsner, amber, and Dutch red. Beer flights arrive on a paddle. Wine by the glass (6oz $11, 9oz $15) or bottle ($45) leans French — Côtes du Rhône, Mouton Cadet Bordeaux, La Vieille Ferme rosé — with a few BC pours from Country Vines. Cocktails at $13: Aperol Spritz, Hugo, Paris Spritz with Grand Marnier, Kir Royale, Chambord Royale, Cognac Highball, Gin & Soda French Style, Shaft with Grey Goose and espresso, Caramel Café with house-made caramel. Spirits: single $6, double $9.

Brunch, lunch, dinner — same kitchen, same prices

Brunch until 3pm means croque madame with a fried egg yolk breaking over brioche, or a galette with ham, cheese, and egg, or quiche Lorraine cut from a whole tart you can see on the counter. Lunch is a baguette sandwich and a glass of Viognier on the side patio. Dinner is bourguignon — beef browned in batches, then slow in red wine until the sauce clings — or navarin d'agneau with seasonal vegetables, or the mushroom chicken baked in cream. Ratatouille arrives with three-colour rice, not pasta. Prices don't shift between dayparts.

Espresso bar and pastries

Espresso $4, americano $5, latte $6, cappuccino $6, macchiato $4. Iced versions at $5–$6. Tea $5. San Pellegrino 750ml and Evian 750ml at $7. Butter croissants and pain au chocolat come out of the case beside the machine. You'll see them in the window photo — golden, laminated, the kind that shatter.

Private dining and occasions

Seven to ten guests takes the private dining room; ten plus becomes an event enquiry. The licence runs to midnight for booked occasions — birthdays, anniversaries, business dinners, proposals. Reservations through the online form or call (604) 370-4444; confirmations within two hours. Dietary questions: call and ask.
