Kronenbourg 1664 on Tap at Vogue Cafe

Kronenbourg 1664 has been the default French lager since 1952, when the Hatt family brewed it for the Strasbourg fair using Strisselspalt hops from Alsace. The same gold pour, the same 5 % ABV, the same clean bitter finish — now on tap at Vogue Cafe for $9 a pint. It pours in branded 1664 glasses at the small bar.
A classic Kronenbourg pour starts with a two-finger head that settles to a tight lace. The nose is floral hop and raw grain; the palate is dry, slightly sweet malt cut by a crisp snap of bitterness. It drinks fast and clean — exactly what you want after a walk along the Steveston boardwalk or before a bowl of French onion soup. The glass stays cold because the line runs through a glycol chiller, not a kegerator in the back hallway.
The local taps beside it
Four Barnside Brewing Co. beers share the tower: Home Field Hazy IPA, Premium Craft Pilsner, Honey Comb Amber Ale, and Dutch Red Ale. Barnside brews in Delta, fifteen kilometres up the Fraser River, on a family farm that grows its own hops. The Pilsner drinks like a sharper, drier cousin to the Kronenbourg — Czech Saaz hops, soft water, long lagering. The Hazy IPA leans tropical; the Amber carries honey from the farm's hives; the Dutch Red is malt-forward with a toasted crust note. A flight brings all four in 4 oz tasters so you can compare without committing to a full pint.
What to order with it
The charcuterie plate ($17) arrives with dry sausage, beer sausage, prosciutto, frankfurter, and pickles — salt and fat that make the lager disappear. A savoury crêpe ($17) with beer sausage, tomato, and cheese mirrors the malt in the glass. The Croque Monsieur ($17) on brioche does the same with ham and melted cheese. If you're here for brunch (served until 3 pm), the Kronenbourg cuts through the richness of a Croque Madame's fried egg and béchamel.
The room and the licence
The dining room has deep-red walls, wood tables, and a printed menu in the window. Outside, bar-height tables line the front windows; a covered side patio has greenery walls and red-checkered cloths. A dog bowl sits by the door. The liquor licence runs until midnight, so the taps keep flowing after the dinner rush. Private dining starts at seven guests; ten or more moves to an event enquiry.
